I have to say that throughout the years I have been with some big hosting companies as well as some small ones. To be honest many of them did a great job. Some of the ones that many use today, I have used in the past and there was really nothing wrong with their service.
However, I have to say that GoDaddy excelled in certain areas, first of all they provide great service and many more options when it comes to hosting and domain purchasing. What I think is their most outstanding feature is their customer service, which will stay with you until the hosting or domain issue is resolved. I once had an operator spend 30 minutes on the line walking me through transferring international domains to a US registrar (GoDaddy). The help provided, eliminated the problems that I faced before calling the international registrar and trying to reach a live agent which was hampered by me being in a different time zone.
I also remember using their online knowledge base which is written so that a guy like myself can easily understand what I need to do to setup my hosting or even pointing my DNS to the right address. I was able to setup my own PHP database and my WordPress blogs with ease using their straight forward instructions. So in a nutshell, you get great service, good instructions that are easily understandable and different price points on the hosting. If you are a big company and need a robust hosting solutions they have that and if you are a small guy like myself then you can buy just what you need to get the job done.
I do encourage small business owners to consider their needs, like myself I do not want to buy what is overkill to run a simple website. I just needed a good domain name and the ability to run a simple site for marketing purposes and for domain level emails so that my customers can contact me and I think if you go with GoDaddy then you will find just the right options you will need to focus on your core business and not to be overly concerned about expensive hosting packages.
